Solar hot water systems:
Solar hot water systems work by absorbing the rays from the sun and using that energy to heat either the water directly or indirectly. While the most common brand and type of solar hot water is the Australian made SOLAHART there are other brands and styles being added to the market all the time including the split system with tubes on the roof and connected to a tank located on the ground. There are many benefits to this system but are the most expensive to install. There are many government incentives to help with the cost of this system.
Electric storage hot water systems:
This is the most common hot water system in the Gold Coast and tweed heads area. This system uses an electric element like your oven to heat the water to a desired temperature and storage’s in the cylinder ready to be used. There are a number of benefits to this system like cost, availability, size and if serviced regularly can last up to 15 years.
Instantaneous gas hot water system:
This system though not new to the market have become very popular for new homes as they are cheap and more visually pleasing and they never run out of water as they only heat the water needed, they do have drawbacks as they can be expensive to service and don’t have a long lifespan. These systems can be installed on existing homes but can be more expensive.
Heat pump hot water system:
This style of system isn’t as well known as the systems above but has been around for just as long as some of them. The system uses a air conditioning system to pull hot air into the Cylinder and uses that energy to heat the water. This system does have more drawbacks then benefits unfortunately, they blow very cold air out the top of the system when heating, are quite loud, expensive and leak water as condensation as they heat.
Gas Storage hot water system:
A gas storage hot water system works the same as an electric hot water system by heating up a certain amount of water and storing it in the cylinder ready to use except it uses a gas power burner to heat the water from underneath like boiling water on the stove, these systems are more efficient then the instantaneous systems and are easily serviced and repaired, they do tend to leak more water as condensation.
